It's Time To Clean Your Makeup Drawer - Tips for Washing Brushes & Tossing What's Old
2023 is almost here, and we've got a lot of exciting stuff in store for you. We know it's going to be a great year. One of our goals at FLEKK is to be cleaner with our makeup. There are a lot of ways you can do this, and we thought we'd share some ideas.
Wash Your Brushes Regularly
One of our top goals is to wash our brushes regularly. Washing your brushes is actually quite easily. We just use antibacterial soap (try liquid pump soap!) to wash our brushes. Then follow these steps:
- Get the brush bristles wet
- Add soap to your hands
- Gently rub the brush bristles in your hand, removing product from the brush
- Rinse with water
You can repeat these four steps as many times as needed to thoroughly clean each brush. Once you are finished, lay the brush flat on a towel to dry. If you place the brush in a cup, the water will fall towards the gold ferrule of the brush and loosen the glue.
Get Rid of Old Products
We also like to go through our makeup regularly and get rid of anything that is too old. All products have a shelf life (usually around 3 years). Once they are opened, they expire within a certain amount of time. Liquids and creams tend to expire faster than powders. You can find the expiration by looking for a picture of a number in a jar. This numberĀ specifiesĀ how many months you can use the product after you open it.
Eyeshadow expires after a year, while mascara expires after 6 months. In order to ensure that your makeup is clean, it is a good idea to restock after this period of time.
Clean Other Tools
After we toss what we no longer need, we go through all of our tools and clean those with alcohol. This is a good way to cleanse them from any germs or bacteria that build up over time. You can also put your tools in a mixture of hot water and antibacterial soap. Here are some of the common tools we will clean:
- Ā Eyelash Curlers
- Tweezers
- Eyelash Combs
- Eyebrow Scissors
- Lash Tools
- Face Razors
While we are cleaning these items, we also like to wipe down the actual products. It's amazing how sparkly clean our makeup and makeup drawer looks and feels after this.
