Makeup Tips As You Age

“What makeup should I be using to make me look younger?” This is one of the questions we get asked the most. After all, if the right foundation can make you look younger, you can save a lot of money on expensive surgical procedures. Fortunately, we’ve got some great tips for you.

Understanding Texture and How It Can Help or Hurt Your Appearance

Let’s start by talking texture. Makeup comes in a variety of textures - thick, thin, matte, satin, illuminating. Choosing the right one can make a big difference in your appearance. As your skin gets old, its elasticity decreases and that plumpness we had when we were younger starts to be replaced by lines and wrinkles. Makeup can emphasize these if you are not careful.

It is very important to choose textures that are thinner. This way they do not sit in the lines. It’s also helpful to avoid anything too matte. A matte texture is less forgiving of the lines on the face, whereas a satin or illuminating texture is more smoothing. These textures will make you look more healthy and youthful.

Shimmer is Not Bad

Many of you have probably heard that because you are aging, you need to steer clear of shimmer. If you do this, you could end up with a face that lacks dimension. A mixture of shimmers and mattes are what give your features balance. So, instead of steering clear, we suggest being smart with shimmer. Use it where needed to brighten and shape.

The two best places for shimmer on your face are your eyelids and your cheekbones. These features benefit from the light-reflective nature of shimmer. They will help add life to these features and properly highlight them.

This is why we include shimmer in both our FLEKK eyeshadow and QUIKK Contour palettes. The included guide shows you exactly where to add the shimmer to best compliment your gorgeous face, so you never have to worry about shimmer aging you or looking out place.

Add Back Color That is Lost

As you age, losing color in your skin, lips, and brow hairs is very common. This is one of the most common reasons people tend to look tired and older. Fortunately, it is easy to add back the color.

Blush, lipstick and brow gel are three simple tools that effectively add healthy color to your features. They wake up the face and add youth to your appearance.

For lip color, the key is to mimic the lip color you had when you were young. When applying color to your lips, you want a soft color that is not too shiny nor too matte, and that stains your lips beautifully.

That was actually the inspiration behind our new LIPSTIKKs. We wanted to replicate that flushed lip color you get from eating fresh, ripe cherries, or sucking on a strawberry popsicle.
