7 Tips for Packing & Traveling With Makeup

Have you ever experienced the unfortunate incident when you arrive at your travel destination only to find out that your bottle of foundation leaked all over your entire makeup bag? It's not the best way to start the dream vacation you've been waiting for. Fortunately, with our amazing packing tips, you can avoid these hiccups.

1 - Separate Powders & Liquids

We recommend separating the powders from your liquids when you are traveling. This way, if something does spill, it won't ruin the powder products you are carrying (eyeshadow, blush, face powder).

2 - Carry On Anything That Might Break

Certain makeup products are more delicate than others - particularly powder compacts. They are much more likely to shatter in a suitcase that you check on an airplane. You cannot control how the suitcase is handled, if it drops, what it comes in contact with, or if someone looks in it for security purposes. If you carry your compacts on the plane with you in your purse, the chances of them shattering are less likely.

3 - Use Makeup Bags

This may sound like a no-brainer, but it is really important to pack your makeup in a special bag just for makeup. Some suitcases have pockets where you can place makeup, but your products will be more protected in their own bag. We like to use clear bags so we can see what is in the bag. Bags will pockets brushes or dividers for different products are also helpful.

4 - Check The Lids & Caps Before Packing

Before you place anything in your bag, it is a good idea to check the lid to make sure it is screwed on tight. Spills usually happen because the tops are loose. Also, when your caps are too loose, air and germs can contaminate your products.

5 - Take Extra Precaution With Risky Bottles

If you are worried about a bottle spilling because the lid doesn't stay on tight or because it is glass, you might want to take some extra steps to prevent problems during transit. Here are some ideas:

  • Put the bottle in its own plastic bag
  • Wrap the bottle in extra padding
  • Pour contents off the bottle in a small travel jar

6 - Pack Sunscreen

Most of the time when you are traveling you will be outside more than normal. It is usually a good idea to bring sunscreen to protect your skin.

7 - Don't Forget Your Tools

Finally, don't forget the tools you need to do your makeup with. We can't tell you the number of times we've forgotten the eyelash curler. It's hard to make your eyelashes look as good without that tool.

Good luck packing for your next trip! We want you to look amazing.
